Gucci
In 1920, Guccio Gucci opened up a shop in Florence that sold
exceptionally made leather handbags, shoes, and accessories. In 1953 Guccio’s
sons Aldo and Rodolfo established offices in New York City. Gucci’s merchandise
became intercontinental status symbols. Bamboo was first used to make handbag
handles in 1947. The original Gucci loafer was updated in 1966. The Rolls Royce
luggage was introduced in 1970. Watches, jewelry, ties and eyewear were added
to the company’s product lines. In the 80’s, family arguments brought Gucci to
the verge of disaster. Rodolfo’s son Maurizio took over the company’s direction
in 1983 but was compelled to sell the company to Invest corp. In 1995, Maurizio
was tragically murdered and his wife, Patrizia Reggiani, was convicted of
hiring his killers. In 1997, there were 76 Gucci stores around the world. Frida
Giannini was appointed as the creative director for women’s ready-to-wear and
accessories in 2005. In 2006 she became creative director for the entire Gucci
label.
In1998 Guiness world records declared the Gucci “Genius
Jeans” as the most expensive pair of jeans ever made. These pair of jeans were
offered for sale for $3,134 in Milan.
