Persol
The name Persol is derived from the Italian word “per il
sole”, which means “for the sun”. Giuseppe Ratti founded the company and
catered to pilots and sports drivers. Its trademark is the silver arrow, also
known as the “Supreme Arrow”. Persol developed the first flexible stem, which
is known as the patented Meflecto system, and was one of the first spring
hinges developed for eyewear. All of Persol’s plastic eyewear is hand crafter
in Italy using cellulose acetate, which is a hypoallergenic material derived
from cotton.
Daniel Craig wore both Persol models 2244-S and 2720-S in
the James Bond film Casino Royale. Pierce Brosnan wore Persol model 2672-S in
the film Die Another Day. Bill Murray can be seen wearing Persol sunglasses in
the movies Lost In Translation and Broken Flowers. One of the most iconic
images of Persol sunglasses can be seen in the movie Divorce Italian Style
where Marcello Mastroianni wears pair of black 649’s. Nicholas Cage wears
Persol’s in the movie Lord of War. Jeremy Piven wears Persol 2958S in the
Entourage Season 7 premiere.
