Burberry
Thomas Burberry opened his own store in 1856 in Hampshire,
England.
The Burberry Equestrian Knight Logo was developed in 1901,
containing the Latin word “Porsum”, which means ‘forwards’. In 1914, the War
Office ordered Burberry, to tailor their officer’s coat to match the conditions
of modern warfare, which lead to the “trench coat”. In the 1920’s, the iconic
Burberry pattern was created and used as a lining in its trench coats.
In 1937, Burberry sponsored A.E. Clouston and Betty
Kirby-Green, whom of which achieved the fasted flying time from London to Cape
Town.
When Angela Ahrendts took over the company in 2006, she was
responsible for turning around the company’s fortunes. In 2013, she became the
first woman to be at the top of the executive pay league.
